Privacy Policy

Last updated Applies to the Kachis Bite app and this website

This policy explains what the Kachis Bite app collects about you, why it needs each piece, who else sees it, and how to get it deleted.

The app exists to take a food order and get it to you. Almost everything it knows about you is there because a plate of food cannot reach an address we do not have.

The short version

  • We collect your email address so we can send you a receipt and tie you to your order.
  • For delivery we collect your phone number and delivery address, because a rider cannot find you without them.
  • We use your location only if you let us, only while the app is open, and only to fill in your address and work out the delivery fee. Background location is switched off in the app itself.
  • We never see your card details. Payment happens on Paystack’s own secure checkout.
  • There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics SDKs and no third-party trackers in the app. We do not sell or rent your data to anybody, ever.
  • You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing orders@kachisbite.com.

The rest of this page is the detail behind those points.

Who we are and what this covers

Kachis Bite (“Kachis Bite”, “we”, “us”) is a kitchen based in Awka, Nigeria. We are the data controller for the personal information described here — that means we decide what is collected and why, and we are the ones you hold responsible for it.

This policy covers:

  • the Kachis Bite mobile app for iOS and Android; and
  • this website, which exists only to announce the app and publish these policies.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at orders@kachisbite.com.

What we collect, and why

We ask for the least we can and still get you your food. There is no sign-up step: nothing below is collected until you actually place an order.

WhatWhenWhy we need it
Email addressAt checkout, every orderTo send your receipt, to identify your order if you contact us, and because Paystack requires an email to process a payment. It is the only identity the app has for you.
Phone numberWhen you save a delivery addressSo the rider can call you when they arrive, and so we can reach you if there is a problem with the order.
Delivery addressDelivery orders onlyHouse number, street, landmark and any instructions you add (“leave at the gate”). Used to deliver the order and to calculate the delivery fee and arrival time.
Approximate or precise locationOnly if you grant permissionTo centre the address search near you and to pin your exact drop-off point. See how we use your location below.
Name and table numberEat-in orders onlySo the kitchen knows which table to bring the plate to. We ask for the name you want called out, not your legal name.
Order detailsEvery orderWhat you ordered, the portions, quantities and prices, the fees, the distance from the kitchen and the estimated arrival time. This is your receipt and our record of the sale.
Payment referenceEvery paid orderThe reference Paystack gives us, the method used (card, bank transfer or USSD) and the time it was paid — enough to confirm payment and to refund you. Not your card number.

What we do not ask for: no password, no date of birth, no government ID, no contacts, no photos, no microphone or camera access, and no social media login.

How the app uses your location

Location is optional. If you decline the permission, the app still works — you type your address instead, and everything else behaves normally.

If you do grant it:

  • Only while you are using the app. The app requests foreground location only. Background location access is explicitly blocked in the app’s own configuration, so it cannot track you when it is closed or minimised — not by mistake, and not by a future change we forget to tell you about.
  • Only for addresses and fees. Your coordinates are used to suggest nearby addresses, to place your delivery pin, and to measure the distance from our kitchen so the app can quote the delivery fee and arrival time. Delivery is priced by distance and capped at 20 km, which is the only reason we need to know how far away you are.
  • We do not keep a location history. We store the drop-off coordinates attached to an order so the rider can find it. We do not log where you are at other times, and we do not build a movement profile.

You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone’s settings, under the Kachis Bite app.

Payments and card details

Payments are processed by Paystack, a licensed Nigerian payment processor. When you pay, the app opens Paystack’s own secure checkout page. You enter your card or bank details on Paystack’s page, not ours.

We never receive, see or store your card number, CVV, PIN or bank login. What comes back to us is a payment reference, the method used and whether it succeeded.

Paystack handles your payment details under its own privacy policy, at paystack.com/terms/privacy-policy.

What stays on your phone

A good deal of what the app remembers never leaves your device. Stored locally, in the app’s own storage, are:

  • your cart;
  • your favourites;
  • the delivery addresses you have saved; and
  • a local copy of your recent orders, so the list loads instantly.

We cannot read any of this. It is deleted when you clear the app’s data or uninstall the app — although orders you have already placed still exist on our side as sales records, which is what the deletion section is for.

Who else touches your data

We use three service providers to run the app. They process data on our instructions, for the purposes below and nothing else.

ProviderWhat they receiveWhy
SupabaseYour order record: email, phone, delivery address, order lines and totalsHosts our database and the server code that prices and records orders. Privacy policy
Google Maps PlatformThe address text you type and, if you allow it, your coordinatesPowers address autocomplete and turns a pin into a real address. Google processes these under its own policy. Privacy policy
PaystackYour email, the amount, and the card or bank details you enter on their pageTakes the payment and confirms it back to us. Privacy policy

Beyond those, we share your name, phone number and address with the rider delivering your order — only for that delivery.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim. If we are ever involved in a sale or merger of the business, order records may transfer to the new owner, who would remain bound by this policy.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Some of these providers operate servers outside Nigeria; where your information is transferred abroad, we rely on those providers’ own contractual data-protection commitments.

What the app does not do

Worth stating plainly, because a lot of food apps do the opposite:

  • No advertising. The app shows no ads and contains no advertising or attribution SDK.
  • No analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not embed third-party analytics, session recording or crash-reporting libraries, and we do not use your advertising ID.
  • No cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not follow you anywhere else, and this website sets no cookies and runs no third-party scripts.
  • No profiling and no automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects for you.
  • No marketing email unless you ask for it. Your email is used for your receipt and order updates.

How long we keep it

  • Order records — kept for as long as we need them to complete the order, handle refunds and disputes, and meet our accounting and tax obligations under Nigerian law.
  • Location coordinates attached to an order — kept with that order record; we keep no separate location log.
  • Emails you send us — kept for as long as needed to deal with your question, and then deleted.
  • Everything stored on your phone — for as long as you keep the app installed. It goes when you clear the app’s data.

When a retention period ends, or when you ask us to erase your data and no legal obligation requires us to keep it, we delete it.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to:

  • ask what we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • have mistakes corrected;
  • have your data deleted, where we have no overriding legal reason to keep it;
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent — for example, by turning off the location permission — without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it; and
  • complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you think we have handled your data badly.

To exercise any of these, email orders@kachisbite.com. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge, and we will not ask you to create an account to make a request.

Deleting your data

Because the app has no accounts, there is no account to delete — but your order records still exist on our side, and you can have them erased.

On your phone, right now

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in your phone’s settings, removes your cart, favourites, saved addresses and local order history from the device immediately.

Our records

Email orders@kachisbite.com from the email address you used to order, with the subject “Delete my data”. Include an order reference if you have one, as it helps us find the right records.

We will confirm receipt, delete or anonymise what we hold within 30 days, and tell you when it is done. Where tax and accounting law requires us to retain a record of a sale, we keep the minimum needed to satisfy it — typically the amount and date — and remove the personal details attached to it.

How we protect it

  • Everything the app sends travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
  • Order records are not publicly readable. Our database denies the app direct access to the orders table outright; an order can only be read back with its own unguessable reference, which is shown only to the person who placed it.
  • The app cannot set its own prices. Every order is priced by our server from the live menu, so a tampered app cannot pay less than the menu price.
  • Our payment provider’s secret keys live only on the server and are never shipped inside the app.

No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects your personal data we will notify you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the law requires.

Children

The Kachis Bite app is meant for adults — you need a payment method to use it — and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If you believe a child has given us their information, email orders@kachisbite.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be flagged in the app before they take effect.

This page is the current version. We do not quietly edit it — the date at the top always tells you when it last moved.
